Background
In 2006 the Glenariffe Girls Gaelic Football team took its first tentative steps, with minimal numbers and limited resources the first few months proved difficult but since then the club has gone from strength to strength and now has over 25 players aged from 8 to 14 along with a committed group of mentors and team assistants.
In 2009 we were very proud to enter our U12 and U14 teams into the Antrim All County Leagues and for our first competitive season we have a lot to be encouraged by. We won 3 of our 6 games beating such established clubs as Antrim and Moneyglass with our girls showing great levels of skill, determination, courage and dedication along the way.
Our younger girls have also a bright future with our U12 team competing in and winning two blitz competitions showing the benefits of all their hard work and training over the past few years.
As a reward for the girls dedication throughout the year of 2009 we took our teams to the All Ireland Ladies Football Finals in Croke Park, Dublin where we were lucky enough to see our own Saffron Ladies triumph in the Junior All Ireland Final. Hopefully some of our Glenariff Girls will be up there on the steps of Croke Park in the future collecting an All-Ireland.
