On July 20th 2016 Adam Burke, a twenty year old man, suffered a devastating stroke following an injury during a GAA football match playing for his local club Two Mile House, Naas, Co.Kildare. The type of stroke Adam suffered during that game could have resulted in his death but for his incredible fitness and will to survive.

The impact of this accident on the pitch a year ago has left Adam with significant life-long challenges. The stroke caused paralysis of his right arm and hand, weakness of his right leg, increased fatigue and crucially has impacted on the area of the brain that controls speech and language. He spent six months in gruelling rehabilitation in Beaumont Hospital and the National Rehabilitation Hospital (NRH) and has made wonderful gains but still has a long way to go. It is estimated that the long term cost of Adam’s Rehabilitation will be in excess of €1,000,000. Â
