GOBL 15 was a great success for the participants, club and wider community. The purpose of the programme was to entice people out of their comfort zone and get them involved in a healthier approach to life through exercise and diet but it turned out to provide much more than this. It was not only a programme which helped promote physical wellbeing but also mental wellbeing. In addition to the fantastic amount of weight participants collectively lost (71 stone), there were loads of other positive gains identified in the feedback forms returned at the end of the project including increased confidence, making new friends, team work, local community development and social interaction.
The programme lasted 7 weeks with 110 participants divided into 8 teams (107 women and 3 men). Over the 7 weeks the participants attended a range of organised exercise classes of zumba, pilates, yoga, spin and circuits, completed a host of special team challenge activities and walked miles together around the glens at all times of the day and night!
Thanks to funding from Sport NI we were able to provide the classes, buy sports equipment and train up 2 local young women who are now qualified Pilates and Fitness instructors.
