Young Farmers/Ulster Council Programme
If interested please contact Maggie McToal, Kenny McCormack or any mentor as soon as possible – see details below:
Ulster GAA are involved in a programme of education for young people, aged 16 – 25 years, in conjunction with the Young Farmers Clubs of Ulster.
There are seven workshops taking place, at various locations, over the next six months (October – March). The workshops will educate young people in areas such as healthy lifestyles, farm and road safety, and other issues relevant to young people. This is a worthwhile exercise to be involved in from a learning point of view, but also good experience to add to CVs and so forth.
We are approaching four GAA clubs per workshop to provide six participants per Club, aged 16-25 years, to attend one workshop. Fifteen GAA members will be selected, from the total 168, to attend a final event in March 2013.
Ulster GAA will be offering a sports voucher to clubs who come on-board with the scheme.
Each workshop will last from 7.30pm – 9.30pm finishing with tea and coffee.
I am emailing your Club to see if you can provide six participants to attend a workshop on Tuesday 11th December in the Bushmills Community Centre, BR57 8QG from 7.30pm – 9.30pm.
If you are interested please come back to me with the names of the six males and/or females who will attend, or an indication that the club wish to be involved.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Le meas,
Maura Kelly
Club & Community Development Officer

Oisín U12 Blitz in Rathlin
History was made on Sat 11th August when 3 North Antrim U12 teams took part in a hurling blitz on Rathlin Island.
The venture, supported by Ulster Council GAA, North Antrim Divisional Board and Rathlin Development & Community Association (RDCA) took place in glorious sunshine with Glenshesk, Oisíns and Ruairi Óg U12 teams competing in a seven-a-side tournament for the Sciath na nÓg Shield.
The teams travelled from Ballycastle on board the MV Canna and paraded from Rathlin harbour to the pitch.
Kieran Megraw, Regional Hurling Development Officer, Sambo Mc Naughton, Antrim Minor Manager and North Antrim Board Committee members welcomed the teams, mentors, families and friends who travelled to the event.
In a hard fought competition, with some great hurling played, Oisíns came out the inaugural winners of the Sciath na nÓg Shield.
The Sciath na nÓg Shield was designed and cast by Rathlin residents Paddy Burns and Brian Ross.
Following the medals presentation, players and mentors enjoyed a meal sponsored by Donaghmore Construction Company before boarding the ferry back to Ballycastle.
It is hoped that this tournament will become an annual fixture in the North Antrim calendar.
North Antrim Board would like to thank Gerry Mc Glynn for coordinating the competition, Michael Cecil from RDCA for his help in preparing the pitch and the people of Rathlin for the warm reception we received.
