Last meeting attended was North Antrim Convention. Concerns were raised regarding lack of officers in N.A. Committee. Chairman said that this may result on one body governing both North Antrim and County if officers not elected. The Chairman recognised the large number of individuals already engaged in supporting Oisín CLG.
Clárú/Costas/Registration/Costs:
£20 fees for individuals were passed. Family/Juvenile fees/Integration and One Club model and collections of fees will be discussed at next General Meeting to be held early February.
Eolas Struchtúir Thraenála/Coaching Structures Information:
Coaching group plan to work with The Primary School and Moyle Council Coaching Officer and will use the Council facilities for training. Indoor training has started. Coaches will meet monthly to discuss issues and scheduling. Senior Hurlers to assist with coaching juveniles. Pitch booking mechanism has been drawn up. The Chairman commended Padraig and the group for their dedication and hard work.
Regarding Club Communication Kenny McCormack, Assistant Secretary, advised that new club stationery has been printed, match reports planned, monthly General Meeting Clár/Agenda will be posted on village notice board, website being updated, two newsletters being issued – hardcopy and online and that ‘Facebook’ was requested by the community and members. The meeting agreed to adopt ‘Facebook’. and ‘teamer.net’ will also be introduced to the club to assist with fixtures etc. Kenny advised that a fitness/dieting talk for U14 to Senior has been organised. The Chairman said that a huge advance has been made in a relatively short time and he highly commended Kenny for his hard work and both he and the Secretary thanked Kenny for his support.

Chairman Niall Wheeler welcomed back Monica O’Neill and Vincent Harvey back to the club meetings from their recent absence due to illness. Niall Wheeler and Hugh McIlwaine acted as stewards (representing Oisín CLG) at a recent County football match in Casement Park and have agreed with County Head Steward to assist at future games, preferably if held locally.
The Chairman thanked the Club Maith team for their continued dedication to the application and is confident that the club will be accredited. Monica O’Neill Children’s Officer stressed the importance of designated members attending the Child Protection Course scheduled for Monday 20th February 2012 in St. Patrick’s School. Monica advised of a Cross Community venture between the GAA and Young Farmers earmarked for mid March 2012 in Corrymeela.

16th Jan 2012 – The Financial Report was discussed however the two main issues were the suspension of four Rasharkin club members and the proposal to have all matches throughout the County played on designated nights was debated at great length. An alternative proposal by Bord na Óg along similar lines was carried on a vote. Second County Meeting was held on 13th February 2012.
Amateur status and payments to Managers discussion paper was debated. Option 2most favoured i.e. to fully implement the existing policy rules and guidelines on our amateur status with a body set up to police it with the whole ethos of amateurism being upheld. The anticipated completion of works to Casement is the end of 2015. Replacement sought for County Treasurer who resigned. Martin Butler’s transfer was approved and 16 new referees are undergoing training.
Tuarascail Aontroim Thuaidh/North Antrim Report:
Stephen Kelly and Hugh O’Connor attended the NA meeting on 2nd February 2012. The NA Chairman encouraged teams to enter the Feilé skills competitions. Niall Kearney is starting a Coaching and Development committee again and each club has been asked to send a representative.
There will not be a fixtures booklet this year but fixtures can be accessed through the website. There are still a number of officer’s vacancies in the NA committee – PRO, Secretary and Fixtures Secretary. John Robbin explained that if the NA Committee accepted club teams alphabetically, this may create a fairer standard competing.

Michelle asked the secretary to stress the importance of articles for the March Newsletter being made available to her. The secretary explained that Michelle was working very hard behind the scenes with the Club Maith application. The Chairman expressed his thanks and said that Michelle was a great asset to the club.
Coiste na nÓg/Juvenile Committee:
Paddy McIlhatton explained the plan for the Juvenile Presentation taking place on Friday 24th February 2012 in The Laragh Lodge. Loughgiel hurlers Johnny Campbell and Barney McAuley are attending.
Clárú/Costas Registration/Costs:
A meeting was arranged for Wednesday 22nd February 2012 in the clubrooms with Pauline McIntosh Girls Gaelic Football Mentor and the Executive Committee to agree membership/registration fees etc
Tóirse Oilimpeach/Olympic Torch:
The secretary explained that she attended a Moyle District Council meeting in The Mariner’s Bar on 2nd February regarding the Olympic Torch travelling through Waterfoot on Sunday 3rd June 2012. It was explained at the meeting that this was a worldwide event with a chance to show case Glenariffe and requested Oisín CLG participation and that of other groups within the parish. Another meeting is to be held in The Mariners Bar on Tuesday 28th February 2012. The Secretary, Brendan Murray and Vincent Harvey agreed to attend and represent the club.
Comhfhreagras/Correspondence:
The Chairman read the following correspondence: Email from The County Antrim Post newspaper advertising their debut paper to be launched on 6th March 2012 asking for materials from GAA clubs for publication. The County Antrim Post is a weekly tabloid. The Secretary agreed to pass the email to the club’s PRO. The Chairman also read the email from Philip Christie regarding various annual grants scales that are available to clubs. All are retrospective and therefore should be targeted for next year before 24th March 2013.

The Chairman asked that members support the Scór Sinsir teams on Sunday 26th February in the County Finals in Rasharkin. Discussions took place as where to site the key for the Defibrillator for quicker access.

The Scór competitions stemmed from the brainchild of Derry Gowan of the Fermoy’s GAC in Co. Cork c.1969. It was known as ‘All Ireland Inter Club Winter Social Activity’ and the GAA really got behind his ideas and developed it in an All Ireland basis to what is now known as Scór.
The idea was for clubs to foster and encourage Gaelic music, singing, dancing and knowledge of our history, sports and language. It was run on a championship basis – County and Provincial champions. Venues all over the country were packed; the All-Ireland finals at Galway, Limerick and Dublin were standing room only in the largest available venues.
The general feeling among commentators is that Scór, having its grass roots in the parish, was surely the most important social initiative ever contemplated or put into practice by the GAA.
The first Antrim winners of All-Ireland titles were Oliver Kearney, Creggan, for recitation and Moneyglass for their set dancing, in both 1972/1973. The following year Angela Feeney, St. Pauls won the All-Ireland title in the Solo Singing competition.
Our club competed from c.1971/1972 season, however there is no press coverage until our most successful year in 1975. We have had little response to our request for local information for the earlier years, however, a few participants were recognised viz: Marie McMullan (Solo Dancer), Bronagh Wheeler (Recitation), Niall Wheeler (Solo Singing), Hugh McIlwaine and Fergus Wheeler, in a ballad group, and Kevin McLaughlin, who competed in the instrumental music class.
We won the County title in the Quiz competition in 1974 (Alex McMullan, Brendan Mitchell and Alaistair McAllister) and 1975 (Alex McMullan, Charlie McAllister and Alaistair McAllister).We were runners up in 1976 (Brendan Mitchell, Charlie McAllister and Alaistair McAllister, Betty Erwin, Angela Black, Evelyn Black, Alex Black and Neil John Black (dancers), our last year to compete.
The year in which we received most press coverage was, 1975 our Ballad Group, Recitation and Solo Singer having competed in the County final were narrowly defeated. Indeed these results caused concern to our club regarding the impartiality of the judgements. However in 1975 our Scór Quiz Team progressed to the Ulster final and was beaten by the Derry team in the final question.

BIG CROWDS AT SECOND SCOR SEMI-FINAL
The second count semi-final of the Scór competitions held in Moneyglass again drew the crowds. The only disquieting aspect was the fact that St. Edna’s team, from Glengormley, failed to appear. Moneyglass and Glenariffe dominated the scene with nine representatives between them. With the only entrant in the ceilidhe dance section, there never was much doubt here but last year’s Antrim champions, Moneyglass, proved again that they are as good as ever.
The only change in the team is the inclusion of Thomas Close and Briege Kerr in place of Mrs Tony Kearney and Cathal Boyd junior. Claire Kelly (Moneyglass) on the tin whistle and Robert McLarnon (Cargin) mouth organ won the instrumental music section from Kevin McLaughlin (Glenariffe) and Leo McGarry (Aldergrove).
In a tough competitive solo singing section, Eilish McMullan (Glenariffe) and Sean Boyd (Moneyglass), emerged victorious. Alaistair McAllister, Alex Mc Mullan and Charlie McAllister formed a tremendously knowledgeable Glenariffe quiz team which stole the show with 44 points in the Question time. Cargin were runners-up in the form of Malachy McErlaine, Peter Totten and Marie Kelly scoring 32 points. The recitation section produced Ursula Hanson (Cargin) and Margaret Dobbin (Glenariffe) as winners while both groups in the ballad section, Moneyglass and Glenariffe, with the fine performances, were adjudged worthy semi-final spots.
The other semi-final was held in Dunloy, as was later the County Final.

Following the Antrim finals of the Scór Seacta competitions held in Dunloy the host club must really feel proud of its achievements getting three acts to the Ulster stages of the competition. The Moneyglass dance team turned in a brilliant display but the ballad group was quite another affair. The competition here was keen, with both Glenariffe and Glenravel giving the Moneyglass group a close run for it.
Under the watchful eye and ear of Bernie McCoy, it will be no surprise if this group collect and All-Ireland title. Once again the question time held the audience spellbound and it took the final six-mark question to separate the men from the boys. At the end of the second round the Mitchel’s team from Belfast, who had performed so wonderfully well in the semi-final stages of the competition, just a week ago, were once again setting the pace and were four points ahead of Cargin and Glenariffe.
They still were out in front in rounds three and four although Glenariffe were handily placed. At the end of round five, it was evident that it was a three-cornered fight. Dunloy, having made up a considerable amount of leeway. They had 26 points with Mitchel’s leading with 32 points and Glenariffe with 28 points. Then came something of a sensation, when question master, Oliver Kearney, announced that Glenariffe has earlier answered a four-mark question correctly and had not been credited with their marks. This put them on level terms with Mitchel’s and in the final round the Glensmen were the only team capable of satisfying the question master, thus giving them the ’75 title.

In June 2011 the Training Session began for Gaelic for Mothers. The attendance was overwhelming and the enthuasm fantastic. Each week the numbers grew welcoming ladies from Cushendall, Cushendun and Ballycastle.
Martin McKendry kindly agreed to be our trainer, he was very much respected among the ladies, even though he showed us NO MERCY! lol
Martin encouraged us in skills, fitness, co-ordination, rules (as only one member had previously played Gaelic before)and team work.
In October just 4 months after starting, 30 ladies travelled to Portmarnock, outside Dublin to take part in a Gaelic for Mothers Blitz. We achieved beyond our expectations and a fantastic time was had by all.
Everyone is counting the days until we start again for our 2012 season.

The boys put in another excellent performance at the weekend as they went undefeated to qualify top of their group and reach the overall finals.
They competed extremely well against teams who were much superior in size but not ability and determination. Their group at the weekend had an Ulster feel to it with Muff from Donegal and Slaugthneil from Derry which added to the event for our boys. We had 2 draws against Glenshesk and All Saints, and recorded victories over Muff, Slaugthneil (runners-up) and St Endas. Well done lads!
The finals will be held this Sat 11th in Seven Towers Leisure Centre in Ballymena. No details of which group we will be in or times of matches have been sent out yet but as we find out we will keep you posted.
The sports halls at Garron Tower are being used for GCSE Mock exams this week so we are going to have a training session at the tarmac court beside the beach on Wednesday at 4.15 to 5.15pm.

Glenariffe Oisíns faced a strong Cuchullains side in the McAuley Cup Final in a very cold Armoy. This was Oisíns first game of the season and Dunloy with a game under their belt were the more confident side. This was however a very tough and challenging game for the Oisíns who not only were missing a few of their first team players but also opted to give a few young players their first debut of senior hurling. Well Done boys for fighting hard to the end.

Week 2 of the North Antrim indoor hurling blitzes takes place this Saturday (4th)
in Ballymena at 10am. Cars will leave Charlies at 9am. Please make sure that
you bring shin guards, helmet, Glenariffe hurling jersey, water and a packet
lunch. Do not bring a hurling stick, we will provide the players with an indoor
stick.
The boys competed extremely well last week having been put in the top division.
They won 2 games, drew 1game and narrowly lost 3 games to Ballycastle A,
Loughgiel A and Creggan. However it bodes well for the future, considering that
9 out of the 10 players all qualify to play again next year. Well done boys!

Oisín CLG welcomed Tommy Stevenson and Peter McVeigh on Sunday 29th January to a ‘Diet & Health Seminar’ held in St Patrick’s Primary Glenariffe.
Tommy Stevenson (Trained Antrim 07/08 – Ulster Champions & also trained Armagh 09/11 – Nicky Rackard All Ireland Winners) used a selection of Minor and Senior hurlers (much to their delight) to demonstrate Innovative Training Techniques, Functional Movement, Injury Prevention, Flexibilty & Core Stability.
Peter McVeigh followed with the importance of Diet & Nutrition to ensure maximum performance during training sessions and matches. There was a great turn out and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the seminar. Please see pictures below:
